The BMW Group has a long established commitment to supporting education and is justifiably proud of its industry-leading training facility at Wokefield Park in Berkshire. The BMW Group Academy UK, launched in 2006 at a cost of £17m, provides all technical and non-technical training for the BMW car, motorcycle and MINI retailer networks throughout the UK.

Here, hundreds of BMW and MINI apprentices are taught the tools of their trade in intensive two and three year vocational and academic courses, alongside those for customer service trainees.

The annual Apprentice Awards Day applauds the success of graduating apprentices from BMW and MINI

Annually, the Academy doors of this state-of-the-art facility are opened to enable partners and parents of graduating apprentices to applaud their success at the annual Awards Day. This year, on Friday 21 April Graeme Grieve, Managing Director, BMW Group UK and Ireland, took to the stage to personally congratulate all of this year’s graduates at the Awards ceremony.

It proved to be a particularly gratifying occasion for one graduate, Jack Bagwell who, seven years ago, enjoyed work experience with West Surrey Racing, BMW UK’s long-term motorsport partners, who field the Team BMW entry in this year’s British Touring Car Championship.

WSR Team Principal, Dick Bennetts explained: “We were delighted to be invited to the Awards Day to display one of the Team BMW 125i M Sport race cars and equally, to be asked together with Colin Turkington, one of our team drivers, to join a Q&A on stage as part of the ceremony.

“After Jack Bagwell received his graduation certificate from Graeme Grieve, I remembered telling him when he finished his work experience that if he was serious about a career in the motor industry, he needed to get the best technical training under his belt. And that’s exactly what he did. It was good to know he listened... and great to see him graduate.”
