BMW had an outstanding evening at the 2017 Auto Express Awards, claiming wins in some of the night's hardest and most-contested sections. Three categories were awarded to BMW on the night: the BMW 5 Series won Best Executive Car of the Year; the much-loved BMW i3 won Electric Car of the Year; BMW was awarded the Auto Express 2017 Technology Award for its range of BMW i and iPerformance vehicles. Adding to BMW's success was the BMW 3 Series receiving a commendation as the Best Compact Executive Car.

The BMW i range proves forward thinking and investment are worth it

Forward thinking.

The rate of development and innovation within the automotive industry is rapid; making the win of the Auto Express 2017 Technology Award that more exciting for BMW. The BMW plug-in hybrid engine and drive train combination has been a revelation in the industry by showing other manufactures that Electric Vehicles can balance excellent fuel economy and low CO2 emissions with the speed and handling of a standard sports car. BMW's intuitive design in the engine provides speedy acceleration while allowing drivers to feel when to slow with excellent regenerative braking. Progressive innovations in connectivity and development in Smart Key technology ensure BMW is a worthy award winner in this category.

The BMW 5 Series was awarded Best Executive Car of the Year

Back on top.

A win as the Executive Car of the Year and a commendation in the Compact Executive Car of the Year category, shows that BMW still leads the way when it comes to premium vehicles. The BMW 5 Series won Executive Car of the Year Award as a resut of its unrivalled driving dynamics and innovative technology, which includes a new auto-parking system and a new Driving Assistant Plus pack that allows the vehicle to accelerate, brake and steer itself on the motorway. Auto Express said of the new BMW 5 Series; "The all-new 5 Series has reclaimed its crown as the class champ thanks to its winning blend of style, refinement and technology."

The BMW 3 Series put in a commendable performance

A round of applause.

The most recent edition of the BMW 3 Series earned third spot in the Compact Executive Car section due to its overall brilliance; build quality, performance and handling as well as recent styling changes all contributing. Performance is at the centre of the BMW 3 Series' appeal, that's why the inclusion of the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox was an obvious choice. The Steptronic gearbox ensures smooth gear changes, whilst also reducing noise and fuel consumption. Style changes also played a key role in the BMW 3 Series' success with smooth sweeping lines hiding subtle design changes for added aerodynamics.

The BMW i3 perfectly balances style and substance

Still number one.

The big win for BMW was the BMW i3 claiming the title of Best Electric Vehicle 2017. Auto Express described the car as: "A genuinely viable alternative to a conventional petrol or diesel-powered supermini or city car". Improvements in battery-capacity and therefore range had a huge effect on the decision. A new range of 120 miles means the new BMW i3 goes further than it ever has done before. The real key to the success of the BMW i3 is BMW's ability to blend the fuel efficiency and eco-friendly production and materials with excellent handling and performance on the road. Classic BMW engineering has catapulted the BMW i3 to the head of the pack once again.
