The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been awarded the EuroCar Body Award for 2017. This marks the third time BMW has won the award, adding to wins from 2014 with the BMW i8 and 2015 with the BMW 7 Series.

The judging panel represents automotive construction experts from across the globe. This year, the judges were impressed by development in production and improved customer benefits, as seen in the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo.

The car’s lightweight construction and coupé styling, which remains functional, has put the model at the forefront of the Luxury Saloon class. Using high-strength steel for the body and chassis makes the new model 150kg lighter than its predecessor. This weight saving also resulted in improved aerodynamics.

The EuroCar panel was also particularly impressed with the vehicles rear design. It features a luggage compartment, which was increased by 110ltrs, and an innovative shape that eliminates the need for a water channel.

Another standout feature was the enhanced cabin space, which offers a more comfortable interior. This has been made possible with a raised drive height, increased head room, and an optimised seat system.

Proving a clear winner for 2017, the new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo ranked first in three of the four categories. This put it well ahead of the competitors and ensured an outright victory ahead of its closest rivals.
