Cars & Technology14 Mar 2018
The new BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé was unveiled to the world on Tuesday 6 March at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show. Following in the footsteps of the Concept 8 Series Coupé that was revealed last year, this latest concept demonstrates a next-generation style for future generations of BMW cars.
Adrian Van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design, said: “The BMW 8 Series will take over as the new flagship model of the BMW line-up and, as such, combines unsurpassed sportiness and elegance. The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé offers a look ahead to the most exotic and alluring variant of the new BMW 8 Series.”
The face of the new BMW 8 Series is evident in the new Concept's front-end
Changing from a green to a greyish-blue in different lights and angles, the exclusive graduated Salève Vert paint finish complements the matt gold M design elements such as the M gills, M brake callipers, M twin tailpipes and M double-bar kidney grille.
Lighting technology familar from the BMW M8 GTE provides a dynamic, hexagonal interpretation of BMW's signature four-eyed front end. The headlights are positioned slightly higher than the kidneys, thus giving them the impression of sitting lower to further emphasise the car's closeness to the ground.
The BMW M8 Gran Coupé will be the latest addition to the BMW M line-up
“The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé is designed to stir things up, to polarise – it should move you emotionally,” explained Domagoj Dukec, Vice President Design BMW M and BMW i. “With this car we want to reach people who are looking for something special and who want to stand out from the crowd. Here, BMW M is unmistakably taking luxury out of its comfort zone.”
