The fifth round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship saw António Félix da Costa (POR) score more points for MS&AD Andretti Formula E. Hosted at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in the centre of the capital on 3 March, the Mexico City E-Prix saw him cross the line in seventh position to secure four points.

Félix da Costa made headlines in the qualifying session. He set the third-fastest time – 1:01.772 minutes – in qualifying group three. No driver from group four beat the 26-year old’s time, therefore he made it into Super Pole for first time since the race in Buenos Aires (ARG) in season two. Félix da Costa came second in the top-five contest but was relegated to fourth due to his car being found to be underweight after the Super Pole. Tom Blomqvist recorded a lap time of 1:02.443 minutes in qualifying group one, meaning he had to start from 18th position on the grid.

Félix da Costa lost a position to winner Daniel Abt (GER) early in the race and couldn’t quite match the pace of the front-runners, however, he was able to defend his top-10 position. It was a tough race for Blomqvist who tried to gain ground at the back of the field, but he ultimately crossed the line in 15th.

António Félix da Costa said: “We take a lot of positives from today. The pace was really good all day, we made it into Super Pole and had a strong qualifying. Our performance in the race was a bit disappointing, however, we are making massive steps as a team."

After the race in Mexico City, Félix da Costa secured position 12 in the current driver standings

Teammate Tom Blomqvist said: “This was a challenging weekend, to say the least. Things just didn’t run smoothly for us today. We had some little issues in free practice, which set us back. The second stint was okay, but when you are coming from so far behind, it’s just very difficult. It was a learning weekend.”
