BMW asked a select group of professional car enthusiasts to test drive and review the new BMW M3 CS. Here is what they had to say.

Car Magazine, James Taylor.

“While the regular M3 and M3 Competition Package can be specced with either a manual or dual-clutch auto transmission, the M3 CS is available only with the latter. It works very well, and in manual mode the metallic shift paddles on the back of the wheel feel good, too, with a proper click feedback to every shift.”

“The BMW M3 CS is a truly exciting car to drive, capable of thrilling its driver more convincingly than the regular M3. It feels better-sorted dynamically than the standard car, too, with superior feedback and body control (during a brief drive on new tyres on warm roads, at least).”

Autocar, Richard Lane.

“The CS meters out ruthless performance with clinical control.”

“the driving position here remains an utter peach, your eye-line grazing a Alcantara-clad three-spoke steering wheel that true to BMW form is still a strangely generous in girth.”

“…not since the M3 CRT of the noughties has the spiritual cornerstone of M Division’s operations held such deliciously serious visual appeal.”

“It offers more power and a sharper chassis, as well as bespoke styling, wheels and suspension settings, making this the best M3 yet for the enthusiast driver.”

“On the move the CS feels more alive. The steering is more precise and the car turns with more commitment. Grip is excellent in the dry and you need to be aggressive with the throttle to upset the rear axle.”

“All in all, though, the M3 CS is a fitting swansong for one of BMW M’s most loved and revered models. It’s sharper than before and looks every inch the race-track refugee.”
